Norfolk Anglers Club

Norfolk, VA

The Norfolk Anglers Club (NAC) was formed in early 2005 by a small group of folks who shared a passion for fishing, and wanted an active, local club in Norfolk. From an initial "who's interested" meeting at Taylor's Landing, the NAC has grown steadily. Present membership is over 100. Our By-Laws state that the purpose of the NAC "shall be the promotion of legislation, customs and practices for the protection, propagation, and conservation of fish and related creatures, of both salt and fresh water, and advancing this usefulness as a source of pleasure to those whose principal recreation is angling. The Norfolk Anglers Club shall also be concerned with the entertainment and education of its members, and the promotion of good fellowship and true sportsmanship amongst all anglers". Basically, our focus is on bringing fishermen, fisherwomen and their families together, to enjoy recreational fishing. To accomplish those goals, the Club brings in speakers to address such topics as weather and its predictions by NOAA, boating safety, conservation of local resources, and angling for various inshore and offshore species at various times of the year. We also encourage and sponsor Club participation in local fishing tournaments, such as Toys for Tots, the CCA Club Challenge, and similar events. The last two years we assumed responsibility for the "Fishing For A Cure" Flounder Tournament, part of the Hampton Roads Regatta benefitting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Our boat-owning members make a coordinated effort to get our non-boat-owning members out fishing, on a regular basis as well as during tournaments. The NAC meets on the second Monday of each month at Martins Restaurant, 331 E. Bayview Blvd (near Tidewater Drive) in Norfolk. Membership is open to anyone who shares our interest in fishing, and membership is not required to attend our meetings. Our dues are $30/year for an individual, and $35/year for a family, with the membership year starting in January. In addition to speakers, we have membership picnics, a big holiday pot-luck at our December meeting, and a membership awards banquet in February. Information about the NAC is on our web site at http://www.norfolkanglersclub.com/, and our primary means of communication with both members and other interested folks is through our monthly electronic newsletter, the "NAC Wireline". The NAC website, has links to past Wireline issues, minutes of our meetings, information about current club officers, upcoming events, membership info, and lots of other great material. For more information please visit the NAC website, contact one of the officers, or just come join us for a meeting.
